Desire

Desire makes slaves out of kings, and patience makes kings out of slaves.

Unchecked desire is a form of servitude. The person who must have the thing, now, regardless of cost, is controlled by the wanting. Every decision bends toward it. Patience inverts this. The ability to hold a desire without being commanded by it is a form of power that compounds over time. The person who can wait, recalibrate, and choose the right moment acts from a position of sovereignty. The person who cannot wait acts from a position of urgency that the world can exploit.
